Who is The Wisdom Tooth Course for? The Wisdom Tooth Course is designed for general dentists who want to develop greater confidence, predictability and precision in the assessment and surgical management of wisdom teeth.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need previous surgical experience? Yes. Delegates should be competent in carrying out surgical extractions of routine teeth before attending The Wisdom Tooth Course. Alternatively, dentists who have completed The Extraction Course will have the appropriate foundation to progress to wisdom tooth surgery.
What will I learn on The Wisdom Tooth Course? The course covers radiographic and CBCT assessment, surgical planning, impacted wisdom teeth, inferior alveolar nerve risk, flap design, bone removal, tooth sectioning, surgical extraction techniques, coronectomy and complication management.
Will I learn how to assess inferior alveolar nerve risk? Yes. The course covers the assessment of the relationship between lower wisdom teeth and the inferior alveolar nerve using appropriate radiographic imaging, including CBCT, and how this influences surgical planning and case selection.
Will nerve injury and its management be covered? Yes. The course covers prevention and management of inferior alveolar nerve injury, including a structured approach to assessment, documentation, patient communication, treatment, referral and follow-up where nerve disturbance occurs.
Is the course hands-on? Yes. The Wisdom Tooth Course uses patient-specific, 3D-printed surgical models created from CBCT scans of real clinical cases. Each case is first demonstrated by Dr Yusuf Gadiwalla using the patient's CBCT imaging, clinical photographs and/or surgical video. Delegates then perform the same surgical procedure on the corresponding 3D-printed model, allowing them to apply the techniques to an anatomically accurate representation of the case in a controlled environment.
Will I learn coronectomy? Yes. Coronectomy is a key part of the course. Delegates will learn about case selection, indications, surgical planning and the principles of performing a coronectomy where appropriate.
Is there support after the course? Yes. Delegates receive ongoing post-course WhatsApp support, allowing them to ask questions and seek guidance after completing the course.
Can I apply what I learn immediately in practice? Yes. The course is designed around practical surgical techniques, clinical decision-making and case assessment that can be applied immediately when managing appropriate wisdom tooth cases in general practice.
