Who is the LUX8 Extraction Course for? The Extraction Course is designed for general dentists of all abilities who want to develop greater confidence, predictability and precision in routine and surgical extractions.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need previous oral surgery experience? No. The course is designed for general dentists with varying levels of experience. The teaching progresses from the fundamental principles of exodontia through to more advanced surgical extraction techniques.
Is the course suitable for newly qualified dentists? Yes. The course is suitable for dentists at all stages of their careers, including those who want to establish a strong foundation in surgical extraction techniques.
Is the Extraction Course hands-on? Yes. LUX8 is an intensive hands-on course. Delegates undertake practical surgical training using pig's heads, allowing techniques covered during the course to be practised rather than simply demonstrated.
What types of teeth will I learn to extract? The course covers a wide range of routine and surgical extraction scenarios, including single- and multi-rooted teeth. Delegates learn tooth-specific approaches, instrumentation, sectioning, flap design and strategic bone removal. We even cover entry level impacted wisdom teeth.
Will I learn how to manage difficult or broken root tips? Yes. Delegates will learn techniques for reducing the risk of root fracture and approaches to the controlled management and retrieval of fractured root fragments when they occur.
Will complications and their management be covered? Yes. The course covers the prevention, recognition and management of common complications associated with dental extractions and oral surgery, helping delegates develop a structured approach when surgery does not go as planned.
Will oroantral communication be covered? Yes. The course covers the recognition and management of oroantral communication, including a dedicated practical for appropriate closure with a buccal advancement flap.
Is this a live patient course? No. The practical component uses pig's heads rather than live patients. This allows delegates to practise surgical techniques in a controlled environment without the time pressure or ethical considerations associated with treating a live patient.
